BACK IN BUSINESS
After the melt down , rain and warm end of last week and weekend....all the snow on the lake is gone or settled...last nights cold temp locked up the remaining slush.....We are back in business to ice fish and wander around freely again. There is a TON of ice so I am very confident we will be ice fishing throughout the month of March. Late ice can be awesome...thanks for the view, I do have plenty of openings...be safe and stay tuned!

WATERPROOF WINTER BOOTS
Currently, the conditions on top of the ice is very sloppy. We have 14- 24 inches of ice statewide, but there is also 12 to 25 inches of snow on top of it!....the 25 inches would be drifts but here on LSC we have and honest 16 inches of snow. The main issue with snow and ice fishing is the water and slush it creates....these conditions change over night at times.....so when I tell you WATERPROOF WINTER BOOTS....here are examples of what I mean.
These are insulated rubber boots made by Ranger. I wear these most of the time!
If you are prone to cold feet which I am not...these are a better choice they are called Baffin boots made in Canada
Lots of folks love Muck Boots they work good too
and lastly an all-round, all season, hunting, boat fishing, mud and snow favorite...LaCrosse Burly
There are plenty of other choices like the Smurf clan love the white Bunny boots but I don't like trying to untie frozen laces....Thanks for the view and there is still a ton of ice fishing left!

RUMORS
Every once and a while a rumor comes true....the Smelt chase on Bomoseen was SUCCESSFUL..I harvested enough for a couple dinners and a snack!
The Yellow Belly was a stumper....solid 13 incher. I invited him to dinner because I knew the GF would NOT eat Smelt:) Thanks for the view and please stay tuned.

Green Dump Access on Bomoseen
This is the ever popular "Grampie Shanty" in the Dale Jr. colors....as you can see we have PLENTY...PLENTY of ice...in my own personal fishing and guiding...I DO NOT DRIVE ON THE LAKE....but plenty of folks do
Everyone who knows me... knows if it was my shanty... it would be blue with a big yellow 48 painted on its side....but honestly its impossible to beat the new portable shanties...
February Update
The ice conditions are EXCELLENT....12 to 20 inches of ice everywhere....the is currently 6 to 10 inches of snow on top...but that will settle. The Pike fishing lately has been very good. Once the winds laid down...the flags have been many:) The Bullgills still seem to be roaming the deep water....the Champlain boys are hammering the Crappies after dark....rumors have it there is a Smelt bite again finally on Bomo...I plan to check that out this week some evening. Fried Smelt for the Daytona 500 would be awesome...
For some of you who harvest Pike, below are two helpful pixs to help you with removing "Y" bones along the lateral line. Personally, I pickle Pike and the brine dissolves them.

Thanks for the view...there is still plenty of time and openings to go...give me a call

Vermont Ice fishing season for Bass and Trout
Vermont ice fishing season for Trout and Bass opens this coming weekend Jan.18th....The ice conditions are excellent. there is 10 to 12 inches of ice almost everywhere. The meltdown and rain we had this last weekend really didn't hurt anything. Some bank edges are tender so be careful getting on and off the ice. I plan on using a plank to get on just to protect the edge (bank) I use. Stay safe everyone, thanks for the view....I will post hero shots after this weekend.

Vermont Ice Fishing has begun!
I am NEVER the first out on the ice....I will not take clients out on the ice without it being 6 inches thick...GAME ON! My spots have 9 to 12 inches of good black ice...
the mark is 6 inches....there is at least 9 maybe 10 inches at my Bass / Pike target....I didn't spend much time out there today because the wind chill was BRUTUAL....tomorrow I plan on making my foot print on some spots and fishing most of the day...thanks for the view and please stay tuned!
